Abstrak
Poetry is an old literary work where human expression and thoughts are expressed in a language rich in metaphors and images, so it requires a deep interpretive approach to explore the hidden meanings in it. Abu Yazid Al-Busthami is a Sufi from Persia who expressed his spiritual journey through poetry to channel his experiences. To understand Abu Yazid Al-Busthami's poetry, an interpretive approach to poetry with hermeneutic interpretation is needed. Through Wilhelm Dilthey's hermeneutic theory, Abu Yazid Al-Busthami's poetry is not only explored from its symbolic meaning but also involves the historical context as one of the factors that forms the text itself. Thus, this study formulates the problem, namely what is the background for Abu Yazid Al-Busthami to write his poetry and what meaning can be read from the poetry. This study uses descriptive analysis as a method to describe and explain the data obtained. Researchers found that Abu Yazid Al-Busthami's poems were born as an expression of his spiritual journey and search for a deep meaning of life. Through a hermeneutic approach, the poems contain spiritual meaning and wisdom that reflect the spiritual journey and thoughts experienced by Abu Yazid Al-Buthami himself in the cultural context of his time.
